I am filmmaker and educator with a strong interest in highly authentic short-form works that challenge, inspire and motivate people.  I have over 20 years experience in media production, and have written and produced content for private, government and not-for-profit sectors.

I am equally experienced as an educator—ranging from kindergarten children right up to university students.  I developed the corporate media program for Curtin University, where I also held a leadership role as Director of Learning & Teaching for the School of Media, Culture and the Creative Arts.

Front Porch Films evolved partly from my filmmaking and teaching experience but, and perhaps more importantly, my 50+ years ‘life’ experience of forming positive and rewarding connections with people from (quite literally) all walks of life.

People tell me I have a knack for engaging a stranger in conversation and making them feel comfortable.  This is something I learned from my father.  He called it the ‘art of conversation’ and it comes very naturally to me indeed.

The process

I meet you to discuss the purpose behind your video, who you want it to reach and – most importantly – how you want them to feel and what you want them to do after watching it.  Together we will explore some possible approaches, locations and characters.

I will design an overall concept which includes the overall structure for the film, key characters and story outline.  Then, in collaboration with you, refine this before moving to the production phase.  We will also refine and finalise the contract.

I’ll conduct interviews – both research and on camera -and shoot ‘b-roll’ footage to help set the scene and convey your message, visually.  I’ll then assemble this with music and location sound, constructing a strong narrative.</p

Depending on the nature of the film, you will have either 1 or 2 rounds of review and feedback, prior to receiving the final edit.
